In June 2015 I was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis after falling ill and as a consequence I had to give up my job as a Warehouse/Driver for a window company as I was no longer able to work. I underwent an assessment for PIP (Personal Independence Payment) and for ESA and was then signed off work
However, I always had ambitions to start my own event management business and despite my illness, I decided to spend time developing my ideas, with the goal of becoming my own boss. My main issue was that I didn’t have a great understanding or knowledge of self-employment: what it entails and what responsibilities I would be taking on. More to the point – I didn’t know what, if any, support was available to me.
I found a business start-up workshop run by delivered by WSX Enterprise. The workshop was brilliant – really helped me focus on doing my research and putting a business plan together. Since attending, my confidence levels have increased and I’ve started to study for a recognised diploma in event management. I’ve also rented desk space in Aldershot Enterprise Centre to continue developing my business plan. I’m now really looking forward to joining the Inspiring Enterprise programme and moving my business idea forward.
